Providing students with their own tools for success is essential for all who work with struggling learners. Fortunately, a wealth of free, emerging technology resources exist which remove obstacles to learning, promote independence and provide alternative ways for students to demonstrate what they know. Using the framework of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) combined with Toolbelt Theory, participants will learn about a variety of tools that promote engagement and learning for their students. Content connections will be offered to inspire swift implementation of these tools and strategies. Participants will leave with a better understanding of UDL to support the needs of all the students in their classrooms.
Learner Outcomes
1. Participants will understand Universal Design for Learning principles and how to implement UDL to reach the needs of all their learners.
2. Participants will understand the importance of building upon strengths to overcome individual learning differences and disabilities while promoting independence and competence.
3. Participants will learn the differences between remediation and accommodation and their impact on Response to Intervention.
4. Participants will promote an environment of success in their classrooms, using Toolbelt Theory, to equip and empower their students.
